Filmmaker Karan Johar today said that actress Kareena Kapoor Khan has set the bar high in film industry by sheer magnitude of her work.
“I think there can be only one Kareena. I am extremely close to her. I love her for what she is on celluloid and as a person. She has that certain spunk, energy in her. Kareena has a tremendous body of work and has set the bar high and it is not fair to compare (her) with anyone,” Karan told reporters at a function here.
There have been comparisons between Kareena and newcomer Alia Bhatt for quite some time.
Alia is playing a Kareena Kapoor fan in Karan’s upcoming film ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’.
In the trailer of the movie launched here, Alia is seen saying to her relatives, “Main shaadi karoongi to Kareena wala designer lehenga pehen kar..’ (I will marry wearing the designer lehenga worn by Kareena).
“Alia is new and I am sure she will work hard and go her way up and be known as Alia Bhatt than anyone else,” the filmmaker said.
In tune with the title of the film, ‘Humpty Sharma..’, lead actors Varun and Alia unveiled the trailer with zest and funny act in which Varun came in a ‘doli’ (palanquin) looking for his bride and Alia coming dancing with revellers.
“It (‘Humpty Sharma…’) is a filmy love story. We all talk about how our love stories are different. This film is different from ’2 States’,” Alia said.
Varun and Alia, who made their debut with ‘Student Of The Year’ are known to share a sizzling chemistry on and off screen. But Alia denied reports of the two of them dating each other.
She was also linked to Arjun Kapoor, her co-star from her latest release ’2 States’ and now again reports of Varun and Alia are making news.
On her link-ups, Alia said, “What to do? May be in my next film, I will be linked to other actor. But there is no truth in it (link-ups)”.
The film also starring popular TV actor Siddarth Shukla is releasing on July 11.
Shukla, of ‘Balika Vadhu’-fame, thanked producer Karan Johar and director Shashank Khaitan for giving him the break.
“I had a wonderful experience working on the film and it is a big thing to come from TV to films,” Shukla said.
Varun revealed on the occasion that Siddharth has more fan following than anyone of them. “He has an incredible fan following among every age group including (among) auntys, kids etc. We are trying to use that for the film,” Varun said.

Indian film actor and producer, Saif Ali Khan who has established himself as one of the most popular actors of Indian cinema, in a recent interview with Ahmedabad Mirror thanks his mother Sharmila Tagore for pushing him to marry Bollywood superstar actress, Kareena Kapoor Khan and talks about his children, and how Sajid Khan’s film, Humshakals can change his career. On his wife, Kareena Kapoor: (Smiles) There’s lots happening in our respective lives and we give each other the space we need. We've learnt to celebrate our differences even in little things like watching a movie or a TV show just because she likes it. Being with her is fun and relaxing. I miss her when she’s gone.

On his sister Soha and her partner Kunal Khemu: It’s ridiculous to tell people to get married. Once you do, the stress begins and divorces are common. If there’s any doubt don’t do it. But I’m thankful to my mother for pushing me to get married. She told me Kareena was the right choice as she has her own life. She’s a beautiful woman, when I’m with her I don’t have to look at another woman!

On extending his family: It’ll happen but it’s not a priority. Right now we’re enjoying being together. Babies change your life. Moreover with all the responsibilities, we hardly get time to even look after our doggy (Chuckles).

On his daughter Sara getting into the movies: Movies are amazing but there’s a price to pay-- choices can go wrong and then the cruelty of someone younger and better looking coming along. Yes, the money is great but you want stability for those you love. Right now, Sara is educating herself. She is a non-judgemental, frugal girl. At the University she had to move to a different dorm and she did all her packing herself to save on $100 dollars, then was smart enough to pretend she was fourmonth pregnant so she didn’t have to carry the luggage (Laughs). I would have given her the money but she’s very controlled, even with her phone bills.

On his son Ibrahim being another him (Saif): He’s far better, just a teenager who’s not academically inclined. Sara is extraordinary. She partied till 5am at our wedding, and then went to school at 7 am.

On Sajid Khan’s upcoming comedy film, Humshakals: As an actor I had to challenge myself by coming out of my comfort zone. I’m good with classy rom-coms like Happy Endings. So, I thought why not enter Sajid’s world and let him change the destiny of my career. His Housefulls and Hey Babyy were more successful than my Cocktail. Humshakals is far more commercially sensible than a Go Goa Gone or a Being Cyrus.

Sajid also made a Himmatwala... And I made a Bullett Raja. It was fun to play this dabbang character of the underworld, when everyone wanted to be urban and multiplex-oriented. But not everyone liked this Raja. I guess it was the same with Sajid and Himmatwala. (Grins). He’s become more humble now, which is good because you can’t go around saying your film will make Rs 100 or Rs 200 crore. But as a director Sajid wants numbers. He has put everything into this screenplay. It’s EON, Everything or Nothing. EON Productions made the first Bond film, a superhit franchise today. We saw the film yesterday and Ibrahim was in splits! Though certain parts are plain absurd-- like turning into a dog after drinking a magic portion and running all over London. It’s easy to mess up a scene like that. It’s like, if you get a death scene right, you’re Amitabh Bachchan of Sholay, if you don’t, you get killed. I’m happy with what I saw. You can’t get more commercial but Humshakals was exhausting because everything had to be played out differently. After this any other film will seem like a vacation.

Even before Sujoy Ghosh could stop reeling under the impact of his favourite 'Balan' (that's what he calls Vidya) suddenly dropping out of his next true-life story of a female cop Durga Rani Singh, he has another crisis looming large over his project. According to sources Sujoy's second choice for the role -- Kangna Ranaut -- has also not worked out.

Says a source close to the project, "Sujoy had written the role of DRS for his 'Balan' just like he had written Kahaani for her. He never imagined she would opt out. The entire Kalimpong schedule that he had so meticulously planned with Vidya in May fell apart." Not one to lick his wounds Sujoy immediately contacted his next choice, Kangna Ranaut who this year is the Queen of female-oriented films. Kangana was very keen to play Durga Rani Singh after Queen and Revolver Rani and tried her utmost to work her schedule to fit the film in, However it was not possible.

In a sudden move Sujoy has apparently approached Kareena Kapoor to play Durga. Says the source, "Kareena is understandably a bit skeptical since the role has gone to two other actresses before. But she has been keen to work with Sujoy ever since Kahaani and the logistics between the two are now being worked out."

According to the source Sujoy will be flying to Goa this week to meet Kareena in Goa where she is shooting for Singham Returns. While Sujoy and Kareena refused to comment on these developments , the source insists that Kareena's presence in Durga Rani Singh is now only a matter of signing formal papers
